Designed and run by a Rover P5 and P5B enthusiast and owner, this site combines several of my interests. Obviously the cars themselves, but also the 1950’s and 1960’s generally, modern British history including the history of our manufacturing and car industry, photography, design and technology. This is an enthusiasts site.

My View on Classic Cars

A large part of the enjoyment I get from classic cars is experiencing them as they were when they were manufactured. This includes all their strengths and charms, weaknesses and frustrations. I’m not against modifying cars, and I certainly believe cars are meant to be used as much as possible and not just polished and preened for shows. But I do think ‘improvements’ should generally be avoided unless for safety or to correct a major issue that might limit the cars usage. Obviously over time some parts become hard to source, so ingenuity is needed to try to stay as close to the original design as possible.

It’s generally true that with classic cars, originality is valued far more than modification, so investing time and money in keeping things standard and ‘doing things right’ is generally rewarded by the market as well.

Other Interests

I also collect period brochures, magazines, books and accessories. Researching and writing about the cars and the period they were designed and made is another interest of mine, including their wider place in the car industry and British society.

I also run the website Mid-Century-Living.com which covers my wider love of mid-century design and architecture. This site covers my other car, a 1972 Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV, the ongoing renovation of a 1960’s house back to a more original style, as well as all sorts of other mid-century items.
